Detroit Selects Alabama IF Jared Reaves in 25th Round

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Jared Reaves became the third player from the 2012 Alabama roster to be selected in the 2012 MLB First Year Player Draft, when the Detroit Tigers selected him in the 25th round with the 784th pick overall.

Reaves, who started every game at shortstop for Alabama over the past two seasons, posted a .329 batting average with 31 doubles, three triples, eight home runs and a team-best 81 RBI in 118 career games. He finished his career in Tuscaloosa with 59 multiple hit games, which included 10 three-hit performances and two games with four hits. He also drove in multiple runs in 21 games, which included a career-high five RBI against South Alabama on Feb. 26, 2011.

As a senior, Reaves was one of 25 shortstops to be named a finalist for the Brooks Wallace Award. In in final season with the Tide, he hit .316 with nine doubles, and team-highs with four home runs and 34 RBI. During SEC play in 2012, Reaves posted a .301 average with five doubles, three home runs and a team-best 21 RBI.

Reaves joins senior outfielder Taylor Dugas and relief pitcher Ian Gardeck as Alabama players to be selected in this year’s MLB Draft. Dugas was picked in the eighth round by the New York Yankees, while Gardeck was a 16th round pick by the San Francisco Giants.
