Darius Hanks to Miss Alabama's First Two Games

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) -- Alabama receiver Darius Hanks will miss
the first two games this season under the NCAA participation rule.

Crimson Tide spokesman Jeff Purinton confirmed Friday that Hanks
won't be able to play against Kent State or Penn State. He played
in the 2007 opener but didn't see action again during his first
season and is listed in Alabama's media guide as receiving a
medical redshirt.

NCAA bylaw 14.2.6 says an athlete can get an additional season after participating "in a limited amount of competition while eligible due to a coach's documented misunderstanding of the legislation or other extenuating circumstances."

Athletes must sit out two games for each one they competed in. Hanks is coming off his best season with 32 catches for 456 yards and three touchdowns while starting every game.
