COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier is
back where he's always wanted to be - in the Southeastern
Conference championship game.
The 18th-ranked Gamecocks face No. 2 Auburn (12-0) on Saturday
at the Georgia Dome. It will be Spurrier's first appearance in the
game since defeating the Tigers 28-6 in 2000 for his sixth - and
last - SEC crown with Florida.
And it has been a difficult road back to the Georgia Dome for
the 65-year-old Spurrier, who seemed a shell of his old, successful
Gators self the first few seasons at South Carolina.
After five largely so-so seasons where more than a few in
college football thought he was done, Spurrier is poised to bring a
winner to South Carolina (9-3) in the game he loves the most.
