Clinard & Seawell up for National Award

AUBURN – Auburn head men’s golf coach Nick Clinard was named a finalist for the Division I Dave Williams Award presented by Eaton Golf Pride, which honors the national coach of the year in Division I men’s golf, the Golf Coaches Association of America announced on Tuesday.

“It is flattering,” said Clinard. “All I do is try to do my job and try to work hard and do the right things. Most of that falls on the guys. They are the ones who put forth all of the effort and try to become better every day.”

This year, Clinard has led the Tigers to victories at the Carpet Capital Collegiate, Gator Invitational and Hootie at Bulls Bay en route to earning Auburn’s first ever No. 1 seed at NCAA Regionals. The Tigers currently hold a record of 134-14-3 this year.

Under Clinard’s tutelage, junior Dominic Bozzelli became the first Auburn golfer in history to win back-to-back tournaments after claiming medalist honors at the U.S. Collegiate in October and Gator Invitational in February.

Joining Clinard as the other finalists are Steve Desimone of California, San Diego State’s Ryan Donovan, Casey Martin of Oregon, Alabama’s Jay Seawell and Jeff Thomas of Liberty. If a team wins the NCAA Championship and its coach was not previously named a finalist for the Dave Williams Award that coach will be added for coach of the year consideration.
