TUSCALOOSA, Alabama-- Two veterans from Alabama's secondary made the initial watch list for the Bednarik Award, which goes annually to college football's defensive player of the year.
Unanimous preseason All-American linebacker C.J. Mosley, of course, was also included, giving the Crimson Tide three representatives on the 76-man watch list.
Safety HaHa Clinton-Dix and cornerback Deion Belue joined Mosley on the list after a 2012 season that saw each hold a regular role in Alabama's defensive backfield.
Only Notre Dame had more representatives than the Crimson Tide. Fighting Irish linebacker Manti Te'o won the award last year.
