MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) -- Christion Jones' Alabama teammates weren't surprised by his huge performance in the opener.
Left tackle Cyrus Kouandjio (kwan-JO) says teammates who see him daily in practice know how good Jones is because, he says, "We're not blind." Kouandjio says it was Jones' hard work paying off.
Jones returned Virginia Tech's first punt 72 yards for a touchdown and added a 94-yard kickoff return in the second quarter. He also had a 38-yard TD catch.
He supplied a huge boost for the Crimson Tide with offensive stars AJ McCarron, T.J. Yeldon and Amari Cooper all largely contained.
Jones says special teams is "very, very important" to Alabama.
He's the only Tide player in records dating back to 1944 to have two returns for touchdowns in the same game.
