Auburn Sophomore Tight End Phillip Lutzenkirchen Meets the Media

Tight End Philip Lutzenkirchen
(On Media Days) “It’s been a zoo. So far, it’s been good though. It’s a great opportunity. It’s nice that the coach thinks enough of you to be one of the guys that represents the team.”
(On the ‘Lutzenkirchen dance’) “It’s pretty much everywhere. I go somewhere, and someone says something about it. It’s funny that it’s what I’ll be remembered for, that touchdown more than any others, but it’s all fun and games.”
(On distractions) “Last year, we were the best, the best team in the country, the best team in the conference. People can think what they want, but we know our program, and we know what goes on there.”
(On the quarterback position) “They’ve got similar qualities, two guys that can run the offense very well. They’ve both been under Coach Malzahn for two years. It’ll come down to the guy that can keep the ball safe. They’re both good friends of mine, and both really good friends with each other as well.”
(On losing Quarterback Cam Newton) “The thing about a Coach Malzahn offense is that he’ll play to our own strengths. Last year, with Cam at quarterback, we used him as a rusher. The year before, we were a play-action team first. We could go back to that. We’ll just have to see this fall.”
(On his role) “Coach Malzahn’s going to move me around a lot. I played some in that slot as a wide receiver last year, fullback and at tight end. Coach Malzahn’s going to expect me to play at all three, and block at all three positions.”
(On the team’s many comebacks last year) “Our coaches, the way we play offense gives us the ability to adjust to what the defense is going to do. We watch a lot of film and study what they’re (defense) going to do. We just have the best assistant coaches in America. We’re lucky to have kept them, to just lose a few.”
