Auburn Breaking in New Defensive Tackles

AUBURN, Ala. (AP) -- The Auburn Tigers are in search of
run-stoppers.

Defensive tackles Nick Fairley and Zach Clayton represented the
strength of the Tigers' defense during last season's national
championship run. Sophomores Jeffrey Whitaker and Kenneth Carter figure to take their place on their field but filling their predecessors' roles is a tall order.

Especially for two guys who combined for 13 tackles last season. Making matters more uncertain, the four players apparently in
line to back them up include three freshmen and a junior with scant
experience.

One of those newcomers just converted to linebacker. The Tigers were ninth nationally against the run last season and 108th in pass defense.

Fairley was the 13th overall draft pick by the Detroit Lions, while the Tennessee Titans picked Clayton in the seventh round.
