AUBURN, Ala. (AP) -- The Auburn women's basketball team is mired in the longest losing streak in school history.
The Tigers have lost eight straight after a 13-3 start under first-year coach Terri Williams-Flournoy that quickly matched last year's win total.
The growing pains are no real surprise to Williams-Flournoy. The former Georgetown coach says the Tigers were winning despite making mistakes that strong Southeastern Conference teams could exploit.
Five of the losses during the streak have come to teams ranked among the top 16.
Williams-Flournoy has brought in a pressing, aggressive style that fashioned three straight NCAA tournament trips at Georgetown.
She says the Tigers "are a few players away from being as good as we need to be."
Auburn's previous longest slide was seven games during the 2001-02 season.
