There are a handful of local players on the Auburn squad. Zac Etheridge of Troy is a defensive starter. Watson Downs of Dothan and Anthony Morgan of Brantley have gotten limited playing time on defense. And, then there's Craig Sanders.
Sanders says, " I've been playing special teams. That's fine with me. I love it. Running up and down the field. It's been great to be a part of."
Sanders may become a beast of a defensive end. But, for now... the freshman out of Ariton High School is doing his part on special teams. It's his way to get on the field, and he wouldn't have it any other way.
Special teams is often overlooked, but Sanders knows it could play a big factor against Oregon.
"They have a great kick returner. We've been practicing hard for him. I think we're going to step up."
And, as for getting a chance to play for a national title as a true freshman.
"It's so crazy, Sanders said. "It's hard to really take hold of the moment. But, it's really awesome."
