This year's Alabama Football Team looks a lot like the 2009 edition of the Crimson tide. That team featured a veteran defense, and an offense of highly-touted, but largely unproven players.
Of course, the Tide won it all in 09, beating Texas at the Rose Bowl for the BCS Championship. It's far too early to pencil in a trip to New Orleans for this year's BCS Title Game, but the team hopes to use a formula that's worked before.
Defense, running game, timely passing; those are the things that can get the Tide back in title contention this year.
"Nobody has been nonchalant in any way during fall camp, or since we've been practicing out of camp," Senior Linebacker Don'ta Hightower said. " Everybody is in the meeting room. Everybody is watching extra film, learning that extra thing that they didn't learn in the spring."
Junior Safety Robert Lester believes the team has the right mindset entering the year.
"We've done a good job of blocking out the external factors," Lester said. "The way we went out last year was not how we wanted to finish the season, so I think all the guys are hungry to get on the right path and have a successful season."
Alabama will open the regular season on Saturday, hosting Kent State at 11:21 a.m. on WTVY.
