Alabama Holds First Practice in Full Pads

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) -- Alabama coach Nick Saban says the players responded well in their first practice in full pads.

Saban said Tuesday that the two-hour workout was "probably one of the better ones we have had." He says he saw improvement in the
Crimson Tide's intensity, effort and toughness.

But Saban says there are plenty of areas that need improvement
over the remaining practices. He says a number of veterans are providing strong examples and the younger players' chance to contribute to the team "will be based largely on their maturity, ability to learn, execute and play winning football at their position."

It was the Tide's fifth practice. Alabama holds its first two-a-day practices Wednesday and is set to scrimmage for the first time on Saturday.
