Alabama Returns to Practice after Spring Break

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The Alabama football team returned from spring break and resumed spring practice under sunny skies on Monday afternoon with a two-hour session at the Thomas-Drew Practice Facility.

Monday's workout was the fifth of 15 spring practices that warps up with the 2013 A-Day Game at Bryant-Denny Stadium on April 20.

"We probably took a step back having this break," Alabama head coach Nick Saban said following practice on Monday. "We need to get people back on track, doing the right thing, playing to a little higher standard and paying more attention to detail.

"I also think the leadership on the team has to demand a little bit more in terms of players doing the right thing, and we have to have a little more commitment in terms of a mental toughness standpoint to be able to preserver through things when they get difficult. That is all part of building the kind of competitive character you need to have on a team, which is a work on progress with every team and something we are working towards now."

Following practice Coach Saban also took a moment to reflect on what former Athletics Director Mal Moore meant to him and the University of Alabama.

"It was really tough for me on Saturday when we got the news (of Moore's passing)," Saban said. "Mal is such a close friend, someone I respected personally as well as professionally in terms of the way he thought of and treated other people. He was the most caring person I have ever been around, always putting other people first, especially in the position of leadership that he had.

"He was very compassionate in terms of other people. I never saw him ever in the years I have known him treat anyone with disrespect. I think we all can learn a lot from him, I certainly have become a better person being around Mal Moore for the class and character, honesty and integrity that he had as a person, a coach and as an athletic director. It is tough losing a good friend and I believe his legacy at this institution will last a long time."

The Crimson Tide will practice twice more this week (Wednesday and Friday) before holding its first scrimmage of the spring on Saturday, April 6. Alabama's 2013 A-Day Game is scheduled for Saturday, April 20, at 2 p.m. (CDT) inside Bryant-Denny Stadium. The A-Day Game is once again free to the public and will be televised live on ESPN2.
