MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - The Alabama House has honored Auburn
head coach Gene Chizik for his Tigers going 13-0 and winning the
2010 national championship.
The House passed a resolution Tuesday honoring Chizik and
invited him to address the House. House members gave Chizik a
standing ovation and some hollered "War Eagle," although a few
cries of "Roll Tide" could also be heard. That's the cheer of the
rival Alabama Crimson Tide.
Chizik told House members he was "extremely honored" to be
recognized by the House. He joked that he didn't know the
quarterback of that national championship team was a House member, pointing to the name C. Newton on the list of House members on the wall. The listing actually refers to Democratic Rep. Charles Newton of Greenville and not Cam Newton.
