TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) -- Alabama defensive coordinator Kirby Smart says last year's defense was "not exactly up to par" even though they gave up fewer yards than any other defense in the nation.

During an interview at Sunday's Fan Day, Smart said the standards are not set by how well they do in the country, but how well they do compared to previous Tide defenses. In that case, the 2012 defense was not up to par.

Seven starters are returning to the 2013 defense. C.J. Mosley and HaHa Clinton-Dix lead the pack. They're set to face seven different teams that boast no-huddle style offenses. A schedule that will certainly put this year's defense to the test.
