AUBURN, Ala. (AP) - Auburn coach Tony Barbee says the formidable
challenge facing him is "fun."
The first-year Tigers coach has scant experience on his roster
going into Friday night's opener with UNC-Asheville at the new
Auburn Arena. Auburn also just dropped an exhibition game to
Division II Columbus State.
But Barbee puts a positive spin on the situation. He says he
likes that he's not battling preconceived ideas of "This is how we
did it before."
Since taking over in March, he has lost two likely starters to
knee injuries and a couple of key recruits to academics. The Tigers
haven't been to the NCAA tournament since 2003.
Barbee has spent much of the offseason drumming up support in
the community and on campus.
