ATLANTA (AP) - Alabama designated hitter David Kindred has been
diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma, a form of cancer.
The university announced Kindred's illness Wednesday and said he
will miss the NCAA Atlanta Regional which begins on Friday.
The junior left the Southeastern Conference tournament last
Friday after experiencing shortness of breath and chest pains.
Alabama says the disease was caught in the early stages and the
odds for a full and complete recovery are high.
Kindred met with the teammates before they left for Atlanta on
Wednesday morning. He says he doesn't want to be a distraction for
the Tide and that he's optimistic that treatment will go well and
he'll be able to rejoin the team in the fall.
