HOOVER, Ala. (AP) - Trent Mummey's two-run single in the top of
the 12th inning lifted Auburn to a 3-1 victory over South Carolina
on Thursday in an elimination game of the Southeastern Conference
The Tigers (40-18) loaded the bases off Matt Price with one out
on a single, fielding error and walk. Mummey then delivered the hit
up the middle to drive in the go-ahead runs.
Auburn closer Austin Hubbard (5-2), who escaped a bases loaded
jam in the bottom of the 10th, retired three straight batters after
giving up a leadoff walk in the 12th. He allowed two hits in 4-2/3
The Gamecocks (43-15) went two-and-out in the tournament after
vying for the regular season SEC title going into the final series
Both starters, Auburn's Grant Dayton and South Carolina's Blake
Cooper, pitched into the eighth and allowed one run.
