National Champion Crimson Tide Meeting President Obama Today

WASHINGTON -- The University of Alabama football team and staff -- a crowd of about 175 people -- descends on the White House today for a tour, a mentoring session with some local kids, and an East Room ceremony with President Obama.

Obama's tradition is to highlight community service when championship teams visit, but there will also be the standard photo-op of players giving the commander-in-chief a gift.

The event with the president starts at 12:45 CST. Afterward, the team shifts into tourist mode with visits to the U.S. Capitol, the National Mall and the Pentagon.

Alabama quarterback Greg McElroy is also feeding his Twitter page on the trip.
