NEW YORK -- Texas A&M's Johnny Manziel had a request for Tre Mason as they were saying their goodbyes on the 40-something floor of the Marriott Marquis on Saturday night.
"Bring home another national championship," Manziel said.
Mason, the Auburn running back who was here for the Heisman Trophy selection show, will try to help Auburn bring home the SEC's eighth straight national title when it plays Florida State in the BCS Championship Game on Jan. 6. To that end, the Tigers will return to practice Monday for six straight days of work.
Auburn has spot in the SEC's national championship run. The Tigers won the BCS title in 2010.
Monday's return to practice will be Auburn's first football work since beating Missouri in the SEC Championship Game on Dec. 7.
Auburn spent the past week collecting national and SEC coach of the year honors for Gus Malzahn, watched as Tigers made SEC and All-American teams, saw Mason win SEC offensive player of the year awards and spend the weekend here for a Heisman Trophy weekend. More honors will likely come.
But Auburn is thinking football practices now.
The Tigers will practice this week, then take a break for Christmas. Auburn will return for more practices in Auburn before flying to California on Dec. 31. The Tigers' will resume their practices there.
