The Associated Press has learned Carl Edwards has spurned an
offer from Joe Gibbs Racing to stay put with current team Roush
The current Sprint Cup leader is the top free agent in NASCAR and a person familiar with the negotiations says Edwards has agreed to a multiyear contract to remain with Roush.
Edwards has been with Roush since 2002, when the team gave him
his break in NASCAR.
It came in the truck series, but Edwards was in the Cup by 2004 as a late-season replacement for Jeff Burton.
Edwards' best season came in 2008 when he won a series-high nine races and finished second to Jimmie Johnson in the championship race.
