Danica Patrick's transition to NASCAR will include an appearance in the Daytona 500. Patrick is guaranteed a spot in the February season-opening race, thanks to a deal struck between Stewart-Haas Racing and Tommy Baldwin Racing.
ESPN reports Patrick will drive the number 10 car for Baldwin Racing, giving her a full-time ride in Sprint Cup's biggest circuit. The number 10 car is guaranteed a spot in the field, after Dave Blaney finished 33rd in owner points last season. The top 35 cars in owner points are locked into the February 26th race, and the four events which follow.
Blaney will now have to qualify for a spot in the field of 43 at Daytona. Patrick is set to run 10 Sprint Cup races this season. David Reutimann will drive the number 10 car for the other 26 events.
If the number 10 car can finish in the top 35 of owner points again this season, Patrick would be guaranteed a spot in the first five races of 2013, which will be her first full-time season on the Sprint Cup circuit.
