Former Major League baseball player Gabe Gross was in Dothan today, speaking to high school athletes. Gross is a Northview graduate and played multiple sports for the Cougars.
"It's very special. I don't get to come back as much as i'd like, but everytime i step on northview's campus, the first thing that happens is a big smile spreads across my face." Gross says.
After graduating high school, Gross went to Auburn University where he started at quarterback.
Eventually Gross made the decision to concentrate on baseball. In 2011, Gross was drafted by the Toronto Blue Jays.
Gross shared his advice for advancing in athletics, as well as life.
" I would say put your faith in Christ and then go to work. There's nothing that takes the place of hard work. You may not make it, again you may, but you wont ever know until you put your work in."
Northview’s baseball coach Lee Hall says it’s always beneficial to have Gross around to influence his players.
"That's how important he is to our baseball program because he's the stamp of our baseball program. He's the guy that all of our guys want to try to be like, not only on the field, but off the field as well.” Hall says.
Gross retired from baseball in 2011.
