AUBURN, Ala. -- Auburn and Clemson have agreed on a home-and-home football series that will reunite the old non-conference rivals during the 2016 and 2017 seasons.

Clemson will visit Auburn on Sept. 3, 2016. Auburn will return the favor Sept. 9, 2017.

Clemson, from the Atlantic Coast Conference, allows Auburn to fulfill the SEC mandate of playing at least one opponent each year from a power conference.

Auburn and Clemson have met 49 times with the Tigers holding a 34-13-2 advantage. Clemson beat Auburn in its last meeting, in 2012. Auburn has a 20-4 record against Clemson at home, and is 10-6-1 at Clemson. Eight games have been played at neutral sites. Much of the series was played in the early part of the 20th Century and, the 1940s, '50s and '60s.

There are more pressing matters for Auburn this week, of course. The Tigers will begin fall practice for the 2014 season on Friday. Auburn opens the season against Arkansas on Aug. 30 in Jordan-Hare Stadium.
