(AP)-North Carolina coach Roy Williams has had surgery to remove a tumor from his right kidney and might have another procedure to remove a tumor from his left kidney.

The school said the Hall of Fame coach underwent a 3 1/2-hour procedure Wednesday morning to remove the tumor. The tumor's severity is unknown. Team spokesman Matt Bowers said test results could be back in about a week.

The school said doctors discovered the tumor during a physical earlier this month. In a statement, one of the surgeons said Williams should be able to coach when the team opens practice next month.

Dr. Eric Wallen says Williams might miss some practices if there's another surgery, but he expects Williams to be ready for the regular season and coach "for years to come."
