TROY, Ala. – Troy University defensive end Jadarius Garner has been named the Sun Belt Conference Defensive Player of the week, as announced by the league office on Monday.
Garner was tremendous in Troy’s 66-3 win over Savannah State on Saturday, leading the team in most defensive statistics, including sacks and tackles for loss.
He finished the night with three tackles-for-loss for a total of 22 yards. He also had a team-high two sacks on the day, both leading to Savannah State fumbles. Garner’s seven total tackles was also a team-high.
Troy knocked off Savannah State in convincing fashion, holding the Tigers to just 147 yards of total offense. As a team, the Trojans recorded six sacks and 11 TFL.
Troy returns to the field on Thursday night in its first Sun Belt Conference game of the season, at Arkansas State. The game is set for 6:30 p.m., in Jonesboro, Ark., and can be seen live on ESPNU.
