TROY, Ala. – Troy University junior outfielder Danny Collins is one of just 60 players on the Golden Spikes Watch List that was released Thursday morning by USA Baseball. Collins is the only player Sun Belt Conference included on the list.
The Golden Spikes Award is presented annually to the top amateur baseball player in the country. Collins is one of 29 new players added to the initial list that was announced in February. USA Baseball will release 30 semifinalists for the Golden Spikes Award on May 28.
Collins leads the Sun Belt Conference with a .690 slugging percentage, 57 RBIs, 21 doubles and 116 total bases. The Niceville, Fla., native is second in the league batting at a .381 clip and with 51 runs scored, while ranking third in on-base percentage (.478), third in hits (64) and fourth in home runs (9).
The three-time Sun Belt Player of the Week hit for the cycle earlier in the year and was named the Louisville Slugger and NCBWA National Player of the Week.
Collins ranks fifth in the NCAA with his 21 doubles and checks in seventh with a 1.168 OPS (on-base plus slugging), seventh in RBIs and 10th in runs scored.
