CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – A well balanced offense led the Trojans (2-2) to a 68-61 win over the host Chattanooga Mocs (1-3) on Monday night at the CBE Hall of Fame Classic. Four Trojans scored in double figures on the night.

“I’m proud of this group,” said head coach Don Maestri. “We didn’t shoot the ball extremely well, but we kept competing tonight, which was a major emphasis after yesterday.”

Troy struggled at the beginning of the second half, but picked it up with some great shooting from its bench. R.J. Scott hit three 3-pointers in the second half to put the Trojans on top, and Deonata Jethroe hit two from deep late to keep them there.

Antoine Myers would finish the game with a team-high 13 points and four assists, despite playing limited minutes due to foul trouble. Hunter Williams scored 12 second half points, including several down the stretch to ice the game. Scott was solid off the bench, with 12 points of his own, while Jethroe made the most of his first collegiate start, scoring 11 points.

The Trojans were out-rebounded by the Mocs, 47-30, but battled on the glass at the end, frustrating the Chattanooga big men. Troy shot 41.1 percent from the field (23-of-56) and 33.3 percent from deep (9-of-27). The Mocs were 21-of-58 from the field (36.2 percent) and 4-of-22 from range (18.2 percent).

The Trojans played much better than the previous night in the first half, taking a 30-25 lead into the break. After trailing by as many as six early, Troy went on a 17-5 run, sparked by 3-pointers from Jethroe, Calhoun and Jones. Antoine Myers caused havoc for the Chattanooga guards, breaking through the defense at will, scoring 11 points and dishing out three assists in the opening frame.

The Trojans wrap up the 2012 CBE Hall of Fame Classic on Tuesday, when the face Southeast Missouri at 3:30 p.m.
