Troy Seniors Justin Wright and Sarah McAppion Named NSCA All-Americans

TROY, Ala. – Troy University seniors Justin Wright and Sarah McAppion have been named to the National Strength and Conditioning Association All-America Team, Troy head strength and conditioning coach Richard Shaughnessy announced Tuesday night at Troy’s annual graduation banquet.

Wright, a guard on the Troy men’s basketball team, was limited to playing in just five games this season due to a pair of injuries. As a junior, he started 16 games and finished third on the team averaging 10.3 points per game.

“Justin is a good student, a highly motivated individual and a team leader,” Shaughnessy said. “He is respected by his teammates because of his dedication to work through injuries. He goes above and beyond to improve himself as a player and a person.”

McAppion, a guard on the Troy women’s basketball team, led the Trojans in field goal percentage (52.0) and free throw percentage (83.7) in addition to finishing fourth on the team in scoring (9.1) this past season. McAppion posted four double-doubles on the year including a 17-point, 10-rebound performance in Troy’s 62-49 victory over South Alabama in the Sun Belt Tournament.

“Sarah is self-driven, has a great work ethic and is a great student,” Shaughnessy said. “She is committed to excellence on the court and in the classroom. Sarah didn’t let injuries prevent her from going to work every day and becoming the best player she could become. She used her injuries as motivation to excel and not be an excuse.”

The NSCA All-America program is in its 34th year and is designed to recognize student-athletes dedication to strength training and conditioning.
