TROY, Ala. – Jamaal Smith has been promoted to Troy University’s director of football operations, head coach Larry Blakeney announced Tuesday. Smith, who played for the Trojans from 2001-04, has worked with the Troy football program since 2007 and was in his third year as the video coordinator.
“It was obvious when Jamaal came back as a graduate assistant that he was one of the most valuable people in our program,” Blakeney said. “He has been involved with some of the operations aspects of the football program for the past few years and is an MVP as far as I’m concerned. Jamaal has a great attitude and works with great efficiency. He has made great relationships and gets more done than anyone I know.”
Smith, who is currently in his seventh year working with the Troy football program, returned to Troy as a graduate assistant in 2007 where worked with the Trojan wide receivers and running backs. The Atlanta, Ga., native received his master’s degree in sport management in 2009.
“I am extremely grateful to Coach Blakeney and the entire Troy Athletics Department for this opportunity,” Smith said. “Troy University has provided me with a lot of avenues to be successful over the years and I am thankful to be part of the Troy Family.”
The Trojans will travel to Durham, N.C., to face Atlantic Coast Conference foe Duke on Saturday, September 28. The game is set to kickoff at 2 p.m. (CDT) and will be televised on ESPN3.
