TROY, Ala. – Danny Collins and Trae Santos drove in three runs each and five Troy pitchers combined to hold Alabama State to three hits as the Trojans won their seventh straight game with a 10-3 victory over the Hornets Tuesday night at Riddle-Pace Field.

Santos finished 2-for-4 with a triple while Collins was 1-for-3 with a two sacrifice flies on a pair of deep line drives. Jo-El Bennett added two hits, including a triple, Jakob Nixon had a pair of hits and Logan Pierce was 2-for-2 with three walks.

Troy’s seven-game win streak is its longest since the 2008 squad won the first seven games of the season. The win was the Trojans’ 20th of the season, Troy didn’t pick up its 20th win last year until April 29.

Troy (20-7) broke open a 2-2 game with five runs in the fourth. Nixon led off the frame with a double off the wall in right and Bennett followed with his triple to straightaway center field. Clay Holcomb drove a one-out single past a drawn in infield and Pierce walked to put two on for Collins.

Collins, who now has 39 RBIs in 27 games, drove a single to center field and Santos followed with his fourth triple of the season to score two more; Santos has driven in 35 runs this year.

Pierce finally saw a pitch to hit in his fourth at-bat and drove an RBI single through the right side of the infield in the sixth to stretch the Troy lead out to 8-2. Collins scorched a pitch to the warning track in center field to score Tyler Vaughn, who walked, stole second and moved to third on Pierce’s single.

Ryan Sorce (3-0) picked up his third win in as many Tuesday’s after holding the Hornets (18-13) to two runs on three hits over five innings of work. Austin Sullivan, William Teal, Thomas Austin and Jeremy McGowan each threw an inning out of the bullpen without allowing a hit.

A hit batter and a pair of wild pitches in the eighth inning broke up a stretch of nine unanswered runs by the Trojans. However, Troy answered back in the home half of the frame as Vaughn scored his third run of the night on a sac fly by Santos.

The Hornets got out to a 2-0 lead after Richard Amion led off the game with a double and came around to score on a passed ball in the first, and Einar Muniz lined an RBI double down the line in left in the second.

Troy tied the game with a pair in the bottom of the third. Holcomb scored on one of three Alabama State errors in the game and Vaughn tied the game when he scored on Collins’ first sac fly of the night.

Manny Rodrigues (1-1) took the loss for the Hornets after he allowed a pair of runs on two hits without recording an out.

Troy returns to Sun Belt Conference action this weekend when it travels to Lafayette, La., to take on Louisiana-Lafayette.
