Troy Expecting Defensive Improvement in 2012

The Troy Football Team has spent the off-season and most of training camp concentrating on defense. The Trojans struggled on that side of the ball in 2011, allowing nearly 34 points per game.

Troy returns most of it's line-up from last year's team, and the Trojans have added several transfers from other FBS programs. That gives the team a valuable commodity; experience, something the Trojans have lacked on defense in recent years.

So, Troy is counting on significant improvement from it's defense, as the team tries to bounce back from a 3-9 record last season.

"We're young in some areas, but I think we're good enough and deep enough in the front seven," Troy Head Coach Larry Blakeney said. "We are certainly more gifted in the secondary across the board.

"It's a matter of executing, getting the call and getting after it on defense."

Troy opens the regular season on the road on Saturday, visiting UAB at 11 a.m. on FOX College Sports.
