MOBILE, Alabama -- When Troy University and Middle Tennessee meet in football the schools play a rivalry that has been dubbed the "Battle for the Palladium.'' The rivalry -- and ownership of the trophy -- has been one-sided of late.
Troy, which is 5-6 overall and 3-4 in Sun Belt Conference play, is hopeful the recent history continues Saturday when the Trojans visit Murfreesboro for the Trojans' final regular season game of the year. Troy has won the past six games in the series and thus has maintained ownership of the trophy for quite some time.
The all-time series began with MTSU winning the first eight games, but all of those games were played from 1936-53. The series record favors Middle Tennessee at 11-8, but Troy has used the recent win streak to close the gap gained in those first few games.
