Troy Baseball Team Preparing to Play 10 Games in 13 Days

TROY, Ala. – The Troy baseball team opens a stretch of 10 games in 13 days on Tuesday night when the Trojans play host to Jacksonville State. First pitch between the Trojans and Gamecocks is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Riddle-Pace Field.

Troy then travels to Birmingham, Ala., for a game at Samford on Wednesday before continuing on to Western Kentucky for a three-game Sun Belt series over the weekend. The Trojans return home for a pair of mid-week games next week against Alabama A&M before a home Sun Belt series against UALR.

The Trojans (21-9) will be looking for the season sweep of the Gamecocks (16-15) after a 13-5 victory in Jacksonville back on March 19. Trae Santos had three hits and four RBIs in the victory while Tyler Vaughn and Danny Collins both had a pair of hits.

Ryan Sorce picked up the win for the Trojans with 2.1 scoreless innings out of the bullpen. The senior southpaw will get the start this time around against the Gamecocks. Sorce (3-0, 2.95) has started Troy’s last two mid-week contests against Auburn and Alabama State and combined to allow just three earned runs on nine hits in 10 innings of work; he struck out nine and walked just one in those two games.

Jacksonville State, who did not play this past weekend, will send one of its weekend starters to the mound to open the contest. Junior right-hander Taylor Shields (5-2, 3.50) will make his ninth start of the year, he has struck out 23 batters and walked eight over 43.2 innings.

Santos had a solid week at the plate for the Trojans as he hit .400 (6-for-15) with a triple, two home runs and six RBIs over Troy’s four games. Logan Pierce, who now leads the Trojans with a .412 batting average, has hit safely in 10 straight games and reached base safely in 35 straight contests entering the week

The Trojans have won six straight games at Riddle-Pace Field and are 16-4 playing at home this season.
