TROY, Ala. – The Troy University baseball team opens a six-game homestand with a pair of mid-week games against Alabama A&M on Tuesday and Wednesday at Riddle-Pace Field; first pitch is set for 6 p.m. each night.
Troy (24-11) enters the homestand with seven straight wins at Riddle-Pace Field and with wins in 11 of its past 15 games overall.
In conjunction with Troy’s Spring Fling 2013 there will be live music beginning at 2 p.m. on Wednesday in Tailgate Terrance behind the left-field wall and Trotline will play following the conclusion of the game.
The Trojans continue to play well in all three phases of the game and enter the week ranked in the top 30 nationally in 12 different offensive, defensive and pitching categories. Troy leads the Sun Belt in fielding percentage, ranks second in batting average and fifth in ERA.
Junior right-hander Will Starling (4-3, 6.52) will start on the mound Tuesday night for the Trojans and junior right-hander Joe Hernandez (0-0, 5.91) is scheduled to get the call on Wednesday.
Third baseman Logan Pierce continues to lead the Sun Belt batting at a .396 clip to go along with 14 doubles and three homers. Pierce carries the nation’s longest streak of reaching base safely of 40 games into the week.
Shortstop Tyler Vaughn ranks second in the NCAA with 49 runs scored while Danny Collins, Trae Santos and Pierce rank first, second and third in the Sun Belt and fourth, eighth and 44th nationally in RBIs.
Troy has won all five previous meetings against Alabama A&M (3-29), including a 9-1 victory last season.
The Bulldogs have not announced their starting pitchers for the mid-week series. Austin Hulsey leads Alabama A&M batting at a .363 clip with 26 RBIs, while Bradley Black has a team-best three homers.
