TROY, Ala. – No. 2 UL Lafayette baseball team flexed its muscles early and never looked back as the Ragin’ Cajuns defeated Troy 15-4 Friday night at Riddle-Pace Field.
Troy starter Tanner Hicks (2-5) was roughed up for 10 runs on 11 hits in 4 1/3 innings of work. Six of the runs against Hicks were unearned, however, as the Trojans committed five errors on the night.
ULL (28-3, 9-1 SBC) pounded out 19 hits, the most against Troy since Middle Tennessee collected 21 on April 13, 2012.
Troy (16-14, 4-5) scored two runs in the fifth and seventh. Garrett Pitts was the lone Trojan to pick up multiple hits. Jo-El Bennett and Ali Knowles collected RBI hits while Clay Holcomb also drove in a run. Holcomb led off the game with a double. It was the sixth time in seven games that Holcomb started a game with a base hit.
Due to the high chance of rain on Sunday, Troy and UL Lafayette will play a doubleheader on Saturday starting at 3 p.m. The second game will begin approximately 30 minutes after the first game. Game one will be televised on the Sun Belt Network (CSS/CST).
