Trojans Pull Jones Off Sidelines

By  |

At the start of the season Troy had two quarterbacks competing for the starting job. Corey Robinson is still the starter. But, his back-up Jamie Hampton has been lost for the season with a broken leg. So, that now means the Trojans are thin at the position.

They have activated student coach Tanner Jones to the roster. The fifth-year senior is still on scholarship. So, he'll be the reserve for now.

Troy's coaching staff is trying to avoid pulling the redshirt from junior college transfer Greg Jenkins.

Jones hasn't played since tearing his a.c.l. in preseason practice last season.

Coach blakeney wants to make sure they take care of starter Corey Robinson.

"We've got to take it upon ourselves to really do a good job with him to protect him,” Blakeney said. “And, he's got to understand we've got to rid of that ball sometimes and throw it away sometimes. There may be some other avenues. But, if we just had to finish a game right now, it would probably be Tanner."
