TROY, Ala. – The Troy softball team (21-28-2, 4-12 SBC) celebrated senior day in style by taking the series over Texas State (23-29, 6-12 SBC) with a 2-0 win. The Trojans picked up their second consecutive shutout, using three different pitchers to get the win.
Ashley Rainey, Jaycee Affeldt and Sara Mock all chipped in to get the shutout. Rainey earned the win after allowing just three hits over four innings before Affeldt came in to pitch 1.1 innings of no-hit ball. Mock picked up the save after tossing 1.2 innings in relief.
Taylor Smartt provided the offense, scoring Troy’s first run and getting the RBI on the second. Smartt was also solid in the field, as she finished the game with five putouts, the most by a Trojans since early March.
Troy got on the board in the third, with Smartt leading off with a double to left center. She then took third on a sacrifice by Ebony Wright and came home on a double-steal.
Erica Davis led off the fifth inning with a single through the left side and was pinch run for by Bria Epps. Epps took second and then advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by Affeldt. Smartt would then bring home the run with a squeeze bunt, giving Troy a 2-0 lead.
All three seniors picked up a hit on senior day, with Wright hitting a triple, Smartt hitting a double and Kacie McAllister getting a single.
The Trojans close out the regular season on Saturday with a doubleheader at in-state rival South Alabama.
