Trojans Split Pair of Games with Texas State
TROY, Ala. – Troy bounced back from a tough loss in game one to take a hard-fought win over Texas State in game two on Saturday afternoon at the Troy Softball Complex.
Troy (20-28-2, 3-12 SBC) dropped game one to Texas State (23-28, 6-11 SBC), 8-1, before recovering to win game two 1-0 on a solo home run by Michelle Phelps.
Heather Johnston also had a solo home run on the day, knocking one out of the park in the third inning of game one.
Troy will wrap up the series with Texas State tomorrow, with first pitch scheduled for 11 a.m. The Trojans will honor its senior class prior to first pitch.
Troy 1, Texas State 8 (Game 1)
Two big innings by the Bobcats proved to be too much, as the Trojans fell in game one, 8-1.
Texas State picked up one in the third on an errant throw. The Trojans leveled the score in the bottom of the third with a solo home run by Johnston, her fourth home run of the season.
The Bobcats came alive in the fourth, plating four. They would go on to add three more in the sixth.
Jaycee Affeldt took the loss after allowing five runs on five hits in 3.2 innings of work. Rayn House earned the win for Texas State after giving up four hits over seven innings.
Johnston finished game one with a pair of hits, including the solo home run.
Troy 1, Texas State 0 (Game 2)
Ashley Rainey was tremendous in a complete-game effort. She struck out four and allowed just five hits, earning her seventh win of the season.
Phelps provided the games only run in the bottom of the fourth, hitting her team-leading sixth home run of the season.
Troy earned its second shutout in its last three games.
