TROY, Ala. – The Troy University baseball team fell to No. 2 UL Lafayette twice on Saturday as the teams played a doubleheader at Riddle-Pace Field. The Ragin’ Cajuns (30-3, 11-1 Sun Belt) won the first game of the day 11-8 before downing the Trojans 11-0 in the nightcap.

The Trojans (16-16, 4-6) trailed ULL 11-0 in the eighth inning of game one when the Troy offense exploded for eight runs, four off home runs by Matthew Howard and Justin Hancock.

Starter Shan McCain (3-3) took the loss after pitching 7 1/3 innings allowing seven runs on eight hits. ULL looked to have blown things open after scoring seven runs in the top of the eighth. Troy used six hits and two-run home runs from Howard and Hancock to draw within three.

In game two, Troy struggled offensively. Clay Holcomb singled off ULL starter Cody Boutte for the Trojans only hit of the seven-inning contest.

Troy will travel to Auburn on Tuesday for a 6 p.m. matchup with the Tigers. Alabama A&M visits Riddle-Pace Field on Wednesday.
