Sparkman Beats Dothan 6-5 in Extra Innings at State Tournament

MONTGOMERY, AL -- The Dothan High Softball Team had several chances to put the defending state champions from Sparkman away at the State Tournament on Thursday. But, the Senators rallied on three separate occasions, coming from behind to beat the Tigers 6-5 in eight innings.

With the win, Sparkman advances to face Thompson in a winner's bracket game at 3 p.m. on Thursday. Dothan will face elimination at 3 p.m., taking on Vestavia Hills.

The Tigers led 2-0 after the first inning, 4-3 after the second and 5-4 heading into the bottom of the seventh inning, but Sparkman rallied each time. Meg Willis capped the Senators final comeback in the bottom of the seventh inning, singling with two outs and two strikes to score Janna Korak, tying the game at 5-5.

After the Tigers failed to score in the top of the 8th inning, Sparkman finished off the comeback on Bevia Robinson's game-winning r.b.i. double, scoring Kinsey Moore with the final run of the day.

Cydney Sizemore and Dazia McDaniel drove in two runs each for the Tigers. McDaniel's r.b.i. double in the top of the 7th inning gave Dothan it's final lead at 5-4.
