Southside-Selma Hammers Cottage Hill at South Regional Tournament

Southside-Selma is going back to Birmingham. The Panthers ended a six-year drought from the Final 48 by beating Cottage Hill 65-43 in the 3A South Regional Final on Saturday.

With the win, the Panthers advanced to the Final Four next week to face Holy Pond on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. at the Birmingham-Jefferson Civic Center. Cottage Hill ends the year with a 19-12 record.

Southside-Selma jumped on the Warriors early during Saturday's Regional Final. Constant defensive pressure produced Cottage HIll turnovers and missed shots and led to easy baskets for the Panthers.

Sammarkus James led Southside-Selma with 28 points, earning Tournament MVP honors. Jeffrey Mack added 11 points and Jevon Hall chipped in 10 points for the Panthers.

Southside-Selma forced 20 turnovers and held the Warriors to 25 percent shooting on the night. Jonathan Johnson led Cottage Hill with 17 points.
