Cody Santora has developed into one of the top baseball players in the Wiregrass. That ability, coupled with his outstanding academic performance, made Santora an attractive prospect for college programs.
In the end, Santora chose Southern Union Community College, signing a letter of intent with the Bison on Tuesday. Santora says he'll play middle infield for Southern Union.
Santora hit .415 as a junior, with 37 r.b.i. and 31 runs scored. He also posted a 7-2 record on the mound, with a 1.66 e.r.a. and 48 strikeouts in 46 1/3 innings of work.
He is also one of the top students in the state. Santora is Slocomb's valedictorian, and he's won multiple academic awards including the 2012 Alabama Baseball Coaches Association Student Athlete of the Year and the Joe Mason scholarship.
Santora's success on the field also produced accolades, as he was named Dothan Eagle Super 12, All Conference in the W.A.C. and Honorable Mention All-State in Class 3A. Santora also played for the Wiregrass Cardinals AAU Team last summer.
