Slocomb Hires Scott Meadows as Head Football Coach

Slocomb High School football players got a chance to meet their new coach on Thursday morning. The school introduced Scott Meadows as the Red Tops Head Football Coach and Athletic Director.

Meadows replaces Mike Bennefield, who resigned in December to become and assistant coach at Jacksonville State. The Red Tops made the playoffs in each of Bennefield's two years on campus.

Now, Meadows takes over, accepting his first head coaching position after 12 years as an assistant, including two at Northview. Meadows says the Slocomb job is ideal, because the groundwork has already been laid by the previous coaching staff.

"This is not a job where you have to come in and rebuild anything," Meadows said. "This is a job where you can continue to build on his success. I'm extremely excited to be here."

Meadows says fans will notice some changes on the field, as he begins to put his stamp on the program.

"There's a difference in philosophy," Meadows said. "We're going to do some things different offensively and defensively than what coach Bennefield did, but again, his success allows us to be successful."

Slocomb also hired a new Head Baseball Coach this week, with Ben Thompson leaving Enterprise after 15 years to run the Red Tops program.
