GOLF-U.S. OPEN
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) -- The top of the U.S. Open leaderboard is getting crowded. On a grind-it-out day at the third round of the U.S. Open, 2003 Open champion Jim Furyk (FYOOR'-ihk) and Northern Ireland's Graeme McDowell, the 2010 champion, are co-leaders at 1 under par after 54 holes. The 42-year-old Furyk signed for an even-par 70 at the tough Olympic Club course. McDowell shot a 2-under 68.
Sweden's Fredrik Jacobson (YAHK'-uhb-sihn) is two shots back.
Lee Westwood shot a 3-under 67 to move into a tie with Ernie Els, Blake Adams and Belgium's Nicolas Colsaerts (KOHL'-sartz) just three shots off the lead.
The 17-year-old Beau Hossler is the low amateur. The high school senior shot even-par 70 and is three over for the tourney -- just three shots off the lead. At one point, Hossler was just happy to be in the U.S. Open, but that has changed. As he said after his round, "My goal now is to win the tournament."
Tiger Woods, who was tied for the 36-hole lead, had a long day. Woods slumped with a 5-over 75 to go 4 over for the tournament. He's five shots off the lead.

One-hitters for Hammel and Santana...Yanks outlast Nats in 14...Gomes comes through in a pinch

(AP) -- The year of the pitcher continues. In addition to the five no-hitters already this season, there were a pair of one-hitters Saturday night.

-- Baltimore's Jason Hammel pitched a one-hitter for his first career shutout, allowing only Jason Heyward's two-out single in the seventh inning, and the Orioles beat the Atlanta Braves 5-0. Hammel struck out eight and walked two.

-- In Anaheim, Ervin Santana tossed a one-hitter in the L.A. Angels' 2-0 win over Arizona. The Diamondbacks' Justin Upton spoiled the no-hitter with a two-out single in the seventh.

Elsewhere:

-- Mark Teixeira (teh-SHEHR'-uh) snapped a 3-3 tie with a two-run double in the top of the 14th inning and the New York Yankees beat the Washington Nationals 5-3 for their eighth straight victory. Rafael Soriano (sohr-ee-AH'-noh) picked up his 12th save. He finished it off by getting Bryce Harper to ground out. The Nationals' 19-year-old sensation went 0-for-7 with five strikeouts.

-- Nelson Cruz hit a towering three-run homer the pitch after Adrian Beltre's (BEHL'-trayz)s two-run single and the Texas Rangers went on to an 8-3 victory over the Houston Astros. Justin Grimm won his major league debut.

-- Jarrod Saltalamacchia (sahl-tah-lah-MAH'-kee-ah) homered to back a strong start by Jon Lester, and the struggling Boston Red Sox beat the Chicago Cubs 4-3. The Red Sox have lost eight of 11.

-- The Florida Marlins scored a run in the top of the 15th inning to beat Tampa Bay 4-3. Scott Cousins hit a tiebreaking RBI triple in the 15th for the winning run.

-- Jonny Gomes' two-run pinch-hit homer in the seventh inning helped the Oakland Athletics beat the San Diego Padres 6-4. Seth Smith also homered for the A's, who have won a season-high five straight.

-- Doug Fister pitched six shutout innings in his return from the disabled list, Miguel Cabrera homered and also scored when Colorado misplayed his comebacker, and the Detroit Tigers defeated the Rockies 4-1.

-- A.J. Burnett became the first Pittsburgh pitcher since 1990 to win six straight starts and Pedro Alvarez homered twice as the Pirates beat the Cleveland Indians 9-2.

-- Matt Holliday and Yadier Molina (YAH'-dee-eer moh-LEE'-nah) led St. Louis to a 10-7 win over Kansas City. Holliday homered and collected five RBIs while Molina homered and drove in four. The Cardinals snap the Royals' season high-tying four-game winning streak with their third win in four games.

-- Reigning National League MVP Ryan Braun belted two of Milwaukee's four home runs in a 6-2 victory at Minnesota. Aramis (ah-RAH'-mis) Ramirez and Cody Ransom also went deep for the Brewers.

-- Rajai Davis belted an RBI double with two outs in the 10th inning to lift the Blue Jays past the Phillies 6-5. Toronto scored three runs in the eighth to force the extra inning. The Blue Jays' late rally cost Cliff Lee his first win of the season. The left-hander is winless in 11 straight starts dating back to last season's playoffs. The five-time defending NL East champion Phillies have lost 11 of their last 14 games and are dead last in the NL East.

In the only National League game of the night, Jay Bruce hit a three-run homer and the Cincinnati Reds beat the New York Mets 4-1 for their fifth straight victory. Homer Bailey pitched out of trouble for eight innings for the win as the NL Central leaders moved a season-best 10 games over .500 at 37-27.

BASEBALL-COLLEGE WORLD SERIES

Razorbacks, Gamecocks win on Day 2 in Omaha

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) -- DJ Baxendale and Brandon Moore combined on a four-hitter, Jake Wise homered for the first time since February and Arkansas defeated Kent State 8-1 to spoil the Golden Flashes' first appearance in the College World Series.
Baxendale didn't allow a hit until Sawyer Polen's infield single with two out in the fifth. He held the Flashes (46-19) scoreless until Jimmy Rider homered in the sixth.
Arkansas (45-20) broke open the game on Matt Vinson's two-run double that made it 5-1 in the bottom of the sixth.

In the second game, two-time defending champion South Carolina rallied from an early 2-0 deficit to beat top-seeded Florida 7-3 in a rematch of the 2011 finals. The Gamecocks are trying to become the first team since the great Southern California squads of the early 1970s to win more than two national championships in a row.

NBA FINALS
MIAMI (AP) -- The NBA Finals have shifted from Oklahoma City to Miami, where the Heat and Thunder are preparing for Sunday night's Game 3 in the best-of-seven title showdown.
After a discouraging road loss in the series opener, the Heat evened things at a game apiece with Thursday night's 100-96 victory in OKC.

CYCLING-US ROAD TEAM
(AP) -- Levi Leipheimer (LEE'-vy LYP'-hy-mur), George Hincapie (HIHN'-kuh-pee), Christian Vande Velde and David Zabriskie removed their names from consideration for spots on the U.S. Olympic road cycling team.
All four riders spent time on the U.S. Postal team with seven-time Tour de France champion Lance Armstrong, who is facing fresh allegations of wrongdoing by the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency.
USA Cycling says it will not speculate on the reasoning behind their requests.

TENNIS-WIMBLEDON TUNEUPS

HALLE, Germany (AP) -- Roger Federer will face wild card Tommy Haas of Germany in a bid to win the Gerry Weber Open for a record sixth time on Sunday.
The 87th-ranked Haas defeated defending champion Philipp Kohlschreiber 7-6, 7-5 after Federer eased past Mikhail Youzhny (mih-KAYL' YOOS'-nee) of Russia by 6-1, 6-4.

LONDON (AP) -- Sixth-seeded Marin Cilic (CHIHL'-ihch) of Croatia beat unseeded American Sam Querrey (KWEER'-ee) in the Queen's Club semifinals 6-3, 3-6, 6-3. Querrey won the title in 2010.
Tenth-seeded David Nalbandian (nal-BAN'-dee-uhn) of Argentina beat Bulgaria's Grigor Dimitrov (dih-MEET'-rawf) 6-4, 6-4 in the second semifinal.
