Richt Pleased with No. 5 Georgia's Timely Defense

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- Georgia coach Mark Richt is not worried about his team's defense, no matter how many yards the Bulldogs have given up this season.

No. 5 Georgia ranks in the bottom half of the Southeastern Conference in the major defensive categories and stands 10th in the league overall, allowing more than 370 yards a game.

That's almost 100 yards more than the team gave up a game a year ago when Georgia was fourth in the league and adding to the SEC's reputation for powerhouse defenses. The Bulldogs (5-0, 3-0 SEC) will surely need to ramp things up defensively this week against No. 6 South Carolina (5-0, 3-0) in a Eastern Division showdown sure to have a bearing on who'll play for an SEC championship.
