Anglers are invited each weekend this fall to compete in the Fall Fishing Challenge at the city and county piers in Panama City Beach.
The challenge will run from Oct. 4 until Nov. 3 and will begin each weekend from 5 a.m. on Friday through 5 p.m. on Sunday.
Fish categories include King Mackerel, Spanish Mackerel, Flounder and Pompano.
A total of $1,200 in prizes will be awarded each weekend, with a first place winner at each pier in each fish category every weekend, and an overall prize valued at $250 given at the end of the tournament for the heaviest fish caught in each of the four categories during the 2013 Fishing Challenge. In total, $7,500 in prizes will be awarded.
Winners of the Children’s Division who catch the largest fish each weekend will receive a $50 prize. Children’s Division is open to those 12 years of age and under. Children must hook the fish and actively participate in reeling in the fish. Children’s winner will be the heaviest overall fish between all categories.
Weigh-ins will take place at each pier with the weekend winners announced on Sunday at 5 p.m. There is no tournament entry fee, but participants must pay the pier fishing fee.
