Northview baseball downs top two 4A teams on Saturday

Northview (26-9) knocked off the #1 4A team in the state, Charles Henderson (26-9), for a second time this season as the Cougars won 4-2. Senior LHP Braden Olive (9-0) pitched 5 innings allowing only 2 hits, 1 walk, 6 strikeouts, and no earned runs. Freshman Carson Hall earned his fourth save of the season pitching the final two innings allowing 5 hits, no walks, no strikeouts and one earned run. In the top of the seventh inning with one out, the score 4-2 and the bases loaded, the Trojans threatened to take the lead but Hall got the four hole hitter (Austin Ingram) to flyout to right field and the five hole hitter Xavius Burden) to groundout to sophomore shortstop Geoffrey Grier. Grier made a great play in the six hole and senior first base Sebastian Lunseth made a great stretch at first base to get the final out of the game. Offensively, senior right fielder Turner Vincent hit a two run homerun in the top of the first inning to put the Cougars up 2-1. Senior third baseman Ben Swicord followed with a two out single to left field to drive in courtesy runner Logan Herndon who had stolen second base the pitch before. Herndon was running for senior catcher Jeremiah Summerford who had reached base on a walk. Olive drove in the final Northview run in the bottom of the fifth with a groundball to second base. Offensively, Grier was 2 for 3 with a double.

Northview (27-9) knocked off the #2 4A team in the state, Oneonta (29-7), as the Cougars won 5-3. Northview was down 2-1 entering the bottom of the sixth inning when sophomore Geoffrey Grier hit a triple to the right center to lead-off the inning. Senior Ben Swicord followed with a double down the left field line to tie the score 2-2. With one out senior first baseman Sebastian Lunseth hit his first homerun of the season deep over the rightfield fence to put the Cougars up 4-2. Senior Drew Roselius then followed with a single to leftfield and senior Michael Reynolds doubled to the leftcenter gap to drive in Roselius and put Northview up 5-2. The Redskins managed to score one run in the top of the seventh but senior catcher Jeremiah Summerford ended the game gunning down a runner at third base trying to advance on a throw to the plate. Senior Ben Swicord started the game on the mound for the Cougars and went 5 innings while allowing 5 hits, 2 walks, 1 strikeout and 1 earned run. Junior Logan Herndon (3-1) picked up the win throwing the last two innings while allowing 2 hits, no walks, no strikeouts and one earned run. Offensively, junior Andrew Benak collected 2 hits as well as Roselius. Senior Turner Vincent also added a triple.
