North-South Volleyball Teams Announced

Montgomery, AL -- Twenty-four outstanding junior volleyball players from across the state have been named to the North-South squads for the 17th annual Alabama All-Star Sports Week competition in Montgomery July 15-20, according to an announcement by Alvin Briggs, Director of the Alabama High School Athletic Directors & Coaches Association (AHSADCA).

The two teams will square off July 18 at 4 p.m. at Faulkner University.

Sports Week, which also includes in-state all-star games in soccer, baseball, girls and boys basketball, softball and football, will also feature the Summer Conference with clinics and special sessions for coaches, principals, athletic directors, cheerleading coaches and officials.

Also, an All-Sports Equipment Expo and other related activities are scheduled throughout the week.

Among the conference’s highlights will be the Sportsmanship Luncheon honoring all schools that have not had an ejection or fine during the 2012-13 school year and the Championship Coaches Awards Banquet that includes the naming of the 2012-13 Making A Difference Coaches of the Year, both on July 19.

Concluding the week will be the Officials Awards Banquet Saturday July 20 at noon.

Coaching the South All-Stars will be Manuel Guice of Alabama Christian and Kellye Jordan Bowen of St. James. Amy Rachel of Eclectic Middle School is the South administrative coach. North coaches are Melissa Hammond of Lexington and Robyn Hutto of Lawrence County. Sue Marshall of Randolph School will serve as the administrative coach.

The AHSADCA operates under the auspices of the Alabama High School Athletic Association. Membership includes coaches of all AHSAA sports as well as administrators of member schools.
