No. 2 seed Georgetown playing Florida Gulf Coast

PHILADELPHIA (AP) -- The Georgetown Hoyas will open up the NCAA tournament Friday in the South Regional against Florida Gulf Coast, a team in just its sixth season as a Division I program.

The Hoyas (25-6), who won the Big East regular season and are ranked No. 5, missed out on a No. 1 seed after losing to Syracuse in the conference tournament semifinal. Georgetown is seeded second in the South Region.

Tradition-rich Georgetown is making its 29th tournament appearance all-time, even as one of the seven basketball-focused Catholic schools splitting off to create their own league keeping the Big East name for themselves.

Florida Gulf Coast (24-10) is seeded 15th after becoming the first team in the tournament by winning the Atlantic Sun Conference tournament. This is the Eagles' first NCAA tournament.
